Risa & Steven Feagins

My path to Rockdale was simple and straightforward. My family and I moved from Springfield, OH to Cincinnati in August 2012. My husband, Steve, and I were anxious to quickly find a temple so that our sons, then 10 and 13, could join religious school at the beginning of the academic year. I had planned to visit all 4 reform congregations in the area, and my first stop was Rockdale. After meeting then Senior Rabbi Sissy Coran, z”l, seeing the beautiful chapel, and feeling a warm and welcoming atmosphere, we had no need to look further. We knew that our decision to join Rockdale, although quick, was meant to be a few weeks later when I was visiting my parents in St Louis. During my stay, a gentleman stopped by my childhood home to install a newly purchased window shade. He and I exchanged pleasantries, and he asked where I lived. To my reply of Cincinnati, he mentioned that he knew Cincinnati well because his first cousin lived there. His first cousin was Rabbi Coran!
In almost 10 years at Rockdale, I have enjoyed numerous services and many holidays.

I have made many new friends. My social justice awareness has been heightened. I have learned about our history, culture, and customs, and I have been reminded about kindness and compassion. My boys completed religious school and ultimately were confirmed. I participated in the adult B’nei Mitzvah program, and I now serve on the Board of Directors.

I feel very privileged to have had these enriching opportunities to learn and lead. I am very appreciative of the knowledge, energy, and positive vibrations that Rockdale has bestowed upon me and my family. Create Your Jewish Legacy is a vehicle through which I can express my gratitude. Contributing to CYJL allows future generations of congregants to enjoy these same benefits and blessings. By leaving a legacy gift, I hope to inspire others to participate in and enjoy the many gifts of Rockdale Temple.
