High Holy Days

The Days of Awe always feel like a family reunion at Rockdale Temple. Our Main Service is held in the Amberley Room of the Mayerson JCC, while FoRT (young families) and Youth (2nd-6th grades) Services take place in Rockdale’s Messer Chapel. Kids of all ages are invited to participate in new, interactive programming following their services. We experience the grandeur of the season as we hear the shofar and pray along with a professional quartet, directed by Mary Southworth. We invite participation as our rabbis lead the worship along with our congregants. Recent B’nei Mitzvah students have the honor of reading Torah. We currently use the High Holy Day machzor (prayer book) of the Reform Movement, Mishkan HaNefesh.

All are welcome to join us for High Holy Day worship. While we do not require tickets, we invite guests to check in with our greeters to let us know who you are!

If you are unable to be here in person but would still like to worship with the Rockdale community, please join us via live streaming by clicking HERE.

Rabbis Kahan and Jaffee wish you and yours a Shanah Tovah u'Metukah, a Good and Sweet New Year. May we all be inscribed in the Book of Life.

We are looking forward to seeing so many of you this year during the High Holy Days! It is always a joy to have community members and guests coming together to pray. No tickets are required for these events, however in light of national events, Rockdale Temple is putting in place new security measures to keep our community safe during the High Holy Days including:

Member Cards - In your recent High Holy Day mailing, you should have received membership cards for each adult member of your family and your children under the age of 25. Bring these with you to High Holy Day services and show them to our greeters at the door to bypass all other security measures. If you did not receive your cards or need replacements, please email

Member Check-in - If you don't have your Member Card, don't worry. There will be a table where members can check in. Please bring a photo ID.

Family and Friends Cards - Rockdale Temple Members may request Family and Friends Cards for their non-member guests. Please direct your requests and the names of your guests with their phone number and email to These cards will allow your guests to bypass additional security measures.

Guest Sign-in - All non-member guests who do not have a Rockdale-issued "Family and Friends Card," including adult children of current members, will be asked to sign in and present a photo ID.

Bag and Wand checks - All bags belonging to non-member guests will be subject to a brief search from a trained security professional. We will also ask that non-member guests submit to a magnetic wand check.

Please plan to arrive at services 15 minutes earlier than usual this year. We will strive to keep our lines moving, and we deeply appreciate your patience as we try to ensure our community's safety.

Our community gathers in celebration of the Pilgrimage Festivals of Sukkot (and Simchat Torah), Passover and Shavuot with morning and evening festival services that are inspiring and filled with spirit. Most of our festival morning services are followed by a congregational lunch, while festival evening services include an oneg. Each year we hold a festive Seder on the second night of Pesach, appropriate and enjoyable for all ages.
